Discover Leeds
The Leeds Historical Society owns and manages The Leeds Historical Society Museum at the J.W. Bass House, which has long served as a museum for all things Leeds. The Bass House is currently undergoing significant renovations made possible through the generous support of the City of Leeds, the Daniel Foundation of Alabama, and the Alabama State Historical Commission. These improvements will preserve the house for generations to come and enhance its role as the home of the City of Leeds Museum. The Bass House Museum will remain closed during renovations, with a projected reopening in April 2026.
In the meantime, we invite you to explore our newest exhibit at the Historic Leeds Depot, located at 3535 Thornton Avenue, Leeds, Alabama. This exciting display highlights the grandeur of Birmingham’s former Terminal Station, demolished in 1969, and also tells the story of the legendary “Steel Driving Man” John Henry alongside the history of the original 1884 Leeds Depot itself. The Depot is open to the public each Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. For more details or to arrange group tours, please call 205-571-1812.
We also encourage visitors to explore the Leeds Antique Trail to discover unique antique shopping options throughout our community. Learn more at LeedsAntiqueTrail.org.
